About Us
The Society of Physics Students at Northern Arizona University is a chapter of the national organization SPS, which acts as both a special interest club and an early-career opportunity for exposure to and advancement within the physics community. Despite our name, SPS is not just for physics students! Anyone with an interest in physics can attend our weekly meetings, free of charge; of course, our meetings do focus on undergraduate physics work, but we gladly welcome anyone. Weekly meetings are held in the Physical Sciences building (#19) on NAU campus, room ##### at #####.
Benefits of SPS
The NAU chapter of SPS was initially formed in the late β90s, but was disbanded in 2013 due to low interest and participation. SPS at NAU was reformed in 2023 to be the organization it is today. In addition to weekly meetings, we offer a number of benefits to members and non-member attendees β special topic workshops, lab research and tutoring job opportunities, scientific interest trips to locations like Lowell Observatory, Palo Verde Nuclear Plant, and the United States Geological Survey, SPS national events, and STEM mixers. Members have the benefit of attending all of these opportunities free of charge (trips typically involve a per-person travel fee), as well as membership in SPS national, which gives access to the triannual SPS Observer β SPS nationalβs flagship publication, which provides physics news, advice, and other useful information.
